On August 11, in Luxembourg, the press briefing of LUkraine’s new project, LUkraine Humanitarian Mission, took place. The project is implemented with the financial support of the Directorate for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
LUkraine Humanitarian Mission is a project by LUkraine, aiming to provide medical and evacuation services on the territories that border the front line in Ukraine.
The project includes the following activities:
- emergency medical care and mobile dental services
- evacuation
- temporary assistance locations
- psychosocial assistance, and humanitarian aid.
Specifically for those who were evacuated and left without a home, LUkraine has established a comfortable shelter that offers access to water, food, medications, electricity, internet, and washing facilities. LUkraine has established its representative office in Dnipro (Ukraine) to ensure the project stays on track and to provide proper coordination.
Project partners include Center of Salvation of Life, charity foundation in Ukraine; Venari Group UK, an emergency vehicles manufacturer; Ukraine Charity, a UK-based charity foundation; Lions Club Luxembourg, a charity foundation; Special Truck Parts (NL), special vehicles and equipment manufacturer; and Pharmaciens sans frontières Luxembourg asbl.
The assistance provided by the Directorate for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg holds immense significance for Ukraine, representing tangible support and deep solidarity from the European community.
Nicolas Zharov, the President of LUkraine, commented, “I have always said that Luxembourg is a small country with a big heart. For us, it is very important to work in the field and do it together with Luxembourg. With our joint efforts, we will be able to create a positive change in the lives of Ukrainians. Thank you to all of our donors and partners for supporting this project.”
Franz Fayot, the Minister for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs, also attended a meeting.
“This project is a powerful reminder of the horrors of this war and the fact that people are dying and suffering in Ukraine every day. The Directorate for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs is pleased to partner with this project, as we can contribute to helping save lives and make a difference. This is our first partnership with LUkraine, and it won’t be the last. Supporting Ukraine is a question of solidarity and humanity, and it is our duty to continue doing so. You can count on the support of Luxembourg in helping Ukrainians,” Mr. Fayot stated.
The first convoy of emergency vehicles is scheduled to depart on August 12, carrying a medical bus, ambulances, a mobile dental cabinet, and a pickup car. This convoy will include a crew of volunteers, including citizens of Luxembourg. The departure from Luxembourg will be towards Dnipro, Ukraine, followed by a mission to Donetsk oblast.
The Humanitarian Mission marks the inaugural project of the Ukrainian office of LUkraine, and it’s only the beginning, especially considering the escalating military situation. The World Health Organization reveals an unparalleled humanitarian crisis in Ukraine due to the Russian invasion. Over 1,000 healthcare facilities have been attacked, a violation of international law. The scale of this crisis is unprecedented, with more than 1,067 attacks confirmed, resulting in 74 medical workers and 27 patients being injured, and 124 units of medical transport being damaged. According to the WHO, this is the largest number of attacks recorded by the agency in any humanitarian emergency. The destruction of the Nova Kakhovka dam, attributed to Russian troops, has left 700, 000 people without access to drinking water. Approximately 14.6 million Ukrainians require humanitarian and health assistance, with over thirteen million people displaced since the invasion.
The humanitarian mission is implemented by LUkraine, a non-profit organization based in Luxembourg with public interest status. LUkraine is dedicated to raising awareness about Ukraine in Luxembourg and across Europe and contributing to humanitarian crisis relief in Ukraine.
